Recap

First of many highlights during this year’s edition was the opening film Tarde para la ira. Actress Ruth Díaz joined the Dutch premiere at for a Q&A onstage in Pathé Tuschinski.

We also welcomed the award-winning filmmaker Álex de la Iglesia, who closed the 3rd edition of the festival with his latest film El Bar.

After La chana’s enormous success, newcomer Lucija Stojevic’s documentary on the legendary flamenco dancer impressed the film lovers during our festival. The singer joined us for the Dutch premiere of the film and also made a live flamenco performance and Q&A onstage in Pathé Tuschinski after the screening.

Audiences had the privilege of attending a Q&A session with Eduardo Casanova, the director of Pieles, and actress Carolina Bang, producer of this provocative film. Eduardo Casanova also made us laugh with his lead actor in Señor dame paciencia, presented at the ASFF 2017.

Two new festival venues joined this edition: the Het Ketelhuis, located inside Westerpark and surrounded by nature and the emblematic music location Bimhuis, where one of their music documentaries Omega proved that Cohen, Lorca, rock and flamenco are perfectly capable of being blended together. Soleá Morente and Antonio Arias from the rock band Lagartija Nick, both protagonists in this documentary, burned the stage after the screening.

In this year’s edition, the section ASFF Cares reflected some social issues celebrating the power that film has to communicate, inspire and empower society. The war correspondent and documentary filmmaker Hernán Zin joined the festival to present his documentary Nacido en Siria with a panel discussion afterwards.
